Values and Philosophy

I provide a safe place for you to look at the patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior that may be interfering with your happiness. I like to keep part of the focus on what’s good: what’s been going right, celebrating strengths, and rediscovering love and trust. I believe that every person has a natural impulse to heal and grow, and every couple has a natural impulse to cooperate and connect.

Therapeutic Technique and Methodology

In a session, my basic approach is conversational. Together we may identify patterns that are troublesome for you, look for ways to break the patterns, and practice some skills. We may also explore how past experiences influence your present. I believe that many concerns of the present arise from coping behaviors we developed in the past. Becoming aware of where the coping behaviors came from, and starting to heal the hurt that drives them, liberates us to live more fully in the present.

I like to offer help in ways that are best suited to you. To do this I draw from training in a range of approaches, including Emotionally Focused Couples’ Therapy, Gottman Couples’s Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Bowenian Family Therapy, Interpersonal Neurobiology, as well as trauma treatment approaches and treatment of internalized oppression.
